Ingredients

  • 1 cup Black rice Rinse - until water runs clear
  • 2 cups Water or broth - Vegetable/chicken broth for more flavor
  • ½ teaspoon Fine sea salt - Adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil or butter - Olive oil coconut oil, or butter

Flavor Enhancers optional:

  • ½ cup Coconut milk - Adds creaminess
  • 2 cloves Garlic fresh, minced - Can sub garlic powder (use less)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger root grated - Can sub ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil - Adds nutty aroma
  • 1 teaspoon Rice vinegar - Can sub apple cider vinegar

Mix-In Options choose as desired:

  • 1 cup Protein additions - Tofu chicken, shrimp, beans, eggs
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh herbs - Cilantro basil, parsley
  • 2 tablespoon Nuts & seeds - Almonds cashews, sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoon Dried fruits - Cranberries raisins
  • 1 cup Fresh vegetables Bell peppers zucchini, mushrooms

Instructions

  • Rinse black rice in cold water until water runs clear; optionally soak 30 minutes.

  • Measure 1 cup rice to 2 cups liquid, add salt, and bring to a boil in a heavy pot.

  • Add rinsed rice, reduce heat, cover tightly, and simmer 45–60 minutes.

  • Remove from heat, let stand covered 10 minutes, then taste and adjust seasoning.
